About

This is my attempt at a different way of learning, one I call the Step Method. Real learning happens when you roll up your sleeves and work through problems. Doing that forces you to confront the gaps in your understanding, and then to see why things are the way they are.

ABC stands for Advanced Basics Course, which sounds like a contradiction, and that's the point. The basics are the most important and most interesting part of programming, but we learn them early, before we're ready to grasp how deep they go. ABC takes them seriously: it turns around to look again at the concepts you left in the rear-view mirror, this time up close.

It began as a short set of sessions for my team, programming basics, but for experienced programmers. Out of that came the Step Method, and the wish to share it with anyone who likes building things, solving problems, and thinking hard about what they're actually doing.
